Manager Torey Lovullo said Friday that the Diamondbacks have paused Puk's (elbow) throwing program, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.

Puk has been on the injured list since mid-April due to inflammation in his elbow, and he was recently cleared to begin throwing from 120 feet out. However, he's now been shut down from throwing and is scheduled to see a doctor within the next few days. More details on what that might mean for his return timeline will have to wait until after his appointment, but pausing a throwing program rarely leads to good news.

Chapman (hand) received good news from his visit with a specialist Friday and can begin rehabbing in about one week, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Buster Olney of ESPN reported earlier Friday that Chapman could be sidelined at least through the end of June due to sprained ligaments in his right hand. While the update from the hand specialist didn't move up Chapman's earliest return date, it certainly lessens the possibility of a long-term absence. The third baseman will have to wear a splint for the next week before beginning rehab. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect Chapman to be back before the end of June, but it seems likely that he'll be back before the All-Star break.

Horton did not factor into Friday's decision against the Pirates, allowing three hits and one walk while striking out four across 5.2 scoreless innings.

Horton generated nine whiffs and 16 first-pitch strikes across 76 pitches and faced the minimum number of batters in three of the six innings he pitched in. Friday marked Horton's first scoreless outing in his major-league career, and the 23-year-old right-hander now has a 3.47 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 29:8 K:BB across 36.1 innings this season. He's lined up to start against the Mariners at home next weekend.

The Guardians reinstated Hedges (concussion) from the 7-day injured list Friday.

Hedges landed on the injured list last Friday after getting hit by the backswing of Jazz Chisholm, but he will now rejoin the active roster following a minimum-length stay on the IL. The 32-year-old backstop is slashing just .113/.217/.283 through 61 plate appearances this season and will continue to serve as Bo Naylor's backup.

Gilbert (elbow) is throwing a bullpen Friday and if all goes well, he will make his next start with the Mariners, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.

Gilbert made three rehab starts and is currently with the team at T-Mobile Park on Friday. If he doesn't endure a setback during Friday's bullpen session, he would be in line to make his return to the rotation. If that's the case, he'd likely pitch during a three-game home set against Boston that begins Monday.

Santana (2-1) blew the save but earned the win against the Cubs on Friday, striking out one batter across 1.2 innings without allowing a run, hit or walk.

Santana was brought out of the bullpen for the eighth inning with runners on the corners. He was able to force a fielder's choice groundout against Dansby Swanson, but that allowed Kyle Tucker to score from third base to tie the game at 1-1. Santana returned to the mound for the ninth and kept the Cubs off the board, and he was credited with the win after the Pirates scored in the top of the 10th. Santanta has a 1.80 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and 25:5 K:BB across 30 innings this season.

Skenes did not factor into Friday's decision against the Cubs, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out five across five scoreless innings.

Friday was just the third time in 15 starts this season that Skenes failed to make it to the sixth inning. He still managed to keep the Cubs off the board, thanks in large part to an assist from the Pirates' fielders in the fifth inning to throw Ian Happ out at home. Skenes has allowed one earned run or fewer in each of his last seven starts, and his 1.78 ERA and 0.85 WHIP (across 96 innings) are both third best in the National League among qualified starters. He's in line to start against the Tigers on the road next week.

Bednar earned the save against the Cubs on Friday after tossing a perfect 10th inning.

Bednar was brought in for the 10th frame to protect the Pirates' 2-1 lead and took care of the top of the Cubs' order in just 13 pitches (11 strikes). He's recorded a save in four of his last five outings and has converted on all 10 save opportunities this season. Bednar has a 3.42 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 33:5 K:BB across 23.2 innings this season.

White Sox manager Will Venable said Friday that Civale will start Sunday's game against the Rangers, Kyle Williams of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Civale's trade request from the Brewers revolved around their decision to move him to the bullpen, and his wish was granted Friday morning with a trade to Chicago. He'll immediately slot into the starting rotation and will make his White Sox debut Sunday. Civale logged a 4.91 ERA over 22.0 innings with the Brewers and pitched into the sixth inning just once in five starts this season.

Alvarez (hand) hasn't started hitting, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reported Friday.

An MRI on May 30 revealed Alvarez had a fracture in his right hand, and the Astros decided to shut him down from hitting until the injury was fully healed. Given Friday's news, the fracture hasn't healed yet. A timeline for return hasn't been established, but Houston could elect to keep him out until after its nine-game road trip -- which starts Monday -- ends.
