  • Padres' Ryan Bergert: Blanks Brewers in no-decision

Bergert allowed one hit and four walks over 5.1 innings in a no-decision Sunday against Milwaukee. He struck out four.

Bergert's command faded a bit late in the outing, as he walked the final two batters he faced, though the left-hander ultimately managed to keep the Brewers off the board in his second major-league start. The 25-year-old Bergert has been impressive so far, posting a 1.26 ERA with a 0.98 WHIP and 8:6 K:BB across two starts and four appearances out of the bullpen (14.1 innings total). Bergert certainly looks to have done enough to remain in San Diego's rotation while Michael King (shoulder) and Yu Darvish (elbow) are sidelined. He's currently lined up to face the Diamondbacks on the road in his next outing.

  • Padres' Ryan Bergert: Sticking around in rotation

Bergert is slated to start Sunday's game against the Brewers in Milwaukee.

Bergert will get at least one more turn through the San Diego rotation after he was summoned from Triple-A El Paso to make his first MLB start Tuesday. He acquitted himself well in a no-decision against the Giants, allowing two earned runs on six hits and two walks while striking out two batters over five innings. Bergert will get a favorable draw in his second start of the week, facing a Milwaukee offense that has produced a 93 wRC+ against right-handed pitching since the start of May.

  • Padres' Ryan Bergert: Allows two runs in start

Bergert allowed two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out two over five innings in a no-decision versus the Giants on Tuesday.

Bergert's first start of the season went fine, though the Padres didn't offer any run support while he was in the game. He made his first four appearances of the year out of the bullpen, covering four innings between April 26 and May 6. The right-hander has posted a 4:2 K:BB over nine innings in the majors, but he has a 9.2 K/9 over 36 innings across nine starts with Triple-A El Paso this year. It's unclear if he's done enough to earn another start -- if he gets another turn, he's projected for a road start in Milwaukee this weekend. Bergert has a chance to occupy a spot in the rotation until one of Yu Darvish (elbow) or Michael King (shoulder) gets healthy enough to return.

  • Padres' Ryan Bergert: Called up for first MLB start

The Padres recalled Bergert from Triple-A El Paso ahead of his start against the Giants on Tuesday.

The right-hander delivered four scoreless frames in four relief appearances with the Friars earlier this season, but he's been promoted Tuesday for his first big-league start. Bergert hasn't completed five frames in a start with El Paso since early April, so the 25-year-old shouldn't be expected to work very deep in his first start for San Diego.

  • Padres' Ryan Bergert: In line to start Tuesday's game

Berget has been added to the Padres' taxi squad and is expected to start Tuesday in San Francisco, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

With the continued absences of Michael King (shoulder) and Yu Darvish (elbow), Berget could earn additional starts after Tuesday's outing. The rookie right-hander has tossed four scoreless innings for the Padres this season, but this will be his first major-league start.

  • Padres' Ryan Bergert: Sent back to minors

The Padres optioned Bergert to Triple-A El Paso on Wednesday.

Berget made a good first impression with four scoreless appearances during his first stint with the big club. He could be back in the majors sooner rather than later but for now will clear out to make room for Sean Reynolds' (foot) return from the 15-day injured list.

  • Padres' Ryan Bergert: Nabs first big-league victory

Bergert (1-0) earned the win over the Yankees on Monday, striking out one batter in a perfect inning of work.

Bergert entered in the seventh inning with the Padres down three runs and set the side down in order on 14 pitches (nine of which were strikes). While that at first seemed like a strong but ho-hum low-leverage outing, it turned into Bergert's first MLB win as a result of the Padres plating four runs in the top of the eighth. Bergert has been impressive since being called up from Triple-A El Paso on March 25, tossing three scoreless frames during which he's given up just one hit and posted a 2:0 K:BB.

  • Padres' Ryan Bergert: Joins big club

The Padres recalled Bergert from Triple-A El Pason on Friday.

Kyle Hart was demoted to El Paso on Thursday with the Padres having three scheduled off days over the next two weeks, eliminating their need for a fifth starter in the short term. Bergert will instead provide depth in the bullpen. The right-hander is one of the organization's top prospects and was in the rotation at Triple-A, so a good performance could put him in the mix for a starting job once the team's schedule gets tighter.

  • Padres' Ryan Bergert: Poised for recall

The Padres are expected to recall Bergert from Triple-A El Paso prior to Friday's game against the Rays, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

He'll take the roster spot vacated by Kyle Hart, who was optioned to El Paso on Thursday. Bergert has been used as a starting pitcher at El Paso, holding a 5.16 ERA and 24:10 K:BB over 22.2 innings covering five starts. He'll be used in relief with the Padres and will be making his major-league debut when he gets into a game.

  • Padres' Ryan Bergert: Bound for minor-league camp

The Padres optioned Bergert to minor-league camp Sunday.

Bergert was added to the Padres' 40-man roster during the offseason and could be a candidate to make starts for the big club at some point in 2025. He figures to begin the season at Triple-A El Paso after he spent the entire 2024 campaign at Double-A San Antonio, turning in a 4.78 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 87:33 K:BB over 98 innings.

  • Padres' Ryan Bergert: Nabs 40-man spot

The Padres selected Bergert to their 40-man roster Tuesday.

Bergert struggled in his second season with Double-A San Antonio, turning in a 4.78 ERA and 1.35 WHIP across 98 innings (23 starts). Nonetheless, the Padres would prefer to not lose him in the upcoming Rule 5 Draft, so the 24-year-old righty will be given one of the openings on San Diego's 40-man roster. Bergert's performance in spring training could decide whether he returns to Double-A to begin 2025 or receives a promotion to Triple-A El Paso.
