Top Rays News

  • Rays' Yandy Diaz: Powers offense in win

Diaz went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer and a double in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Marlins.

Diaz got the Rays on the board in the fifth inning, driving a two-out, opposite-field blast off Valente Bellozo to tie the game 2-2. It's the ninth homer of the year for Diaz, who's gone 10-for-27 (.370) over his last seven games. He's slashing .248/.297/.413 with 25 runs scored, 36 RBI and three steals across 263 plate appearances this season.

  • Rays' Drew Rasmussen: Quality start vs. Marlins

Rasmussen allowed two runs on six hits and a walk in a no-decision Sunday against Miami. He struck out three.

While Rasmussen's four-start scoreless streak ended in the first inning Sunday, the right-hander was able to settle in and hold the Marlins to one run over his final five frames, picking up a fourth quality start in his last five outings. The 29-year-old Rasmussen's ERA sits at 2.22 through 13 starts (69 innings) this year with a 0.90 WHIP and 59:14 K:BB. He's currently slated to face the Mets on the road in his next outing.

  • Rays' Danny Jansen: Idle for series finale

Jansen is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Jansen and Matt Thaiss have now alternated turns behind the dish over the last eight games, with both backstops garnering four starts apiece. After going 2-for-23 with 10 strikeouts over a stretch of seven games, Jansen broke out in Saturday's 11-10 loss, finishing 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, two RBI and two additional runs.

  • Rays' Jose Caballero: Not in Sunday's lineup

Caballero is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Caballero started the first two games of the series in the outfield and will sit Sunday while in the midst of an 0-for-14 slump. Jake Mangum, Kameron Misner and Josh Lowe will man the outfield from left to right field.

  • Rays' Cole Sulser: Sent to Triple-A

The Rays optioned Sulser to Triple-A Durham on Sunday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The right-hander hadn't given up a run in his past six appearances but will still be sent down in favor of Ian Seymour, who can provide a bit more length out of the bullpen. Sulser's 3.09 ERA and 1.20 WHIP through 10 big-league outings this season should be enough for him to get another look with Tampa Bay later this season.

  • Rays' Ian Seymour: Promoted Sunday

The Rays recalled Seymour from Triple-A Durham on Sunday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The left-hander was scheduled to start for Durham on Sunday, but he'll instead receive his first taste of the majors since the Rays are in need of some fresh bullpen arms. Seymour has a 2.95 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 84:15 K:BB across 61 innings (12 starts) at Triple-A this season.

  • Rays' Taylor Walls: Three-RBI day in loss

Walls went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, a double and an additional RBI in Saturday's 11-10 extra-inning loss to the Marlins.

Walls is currently in the midst of his best stretch of the season, posting his third multi-hit game in a row Saturday. The 28-year-old has gone 6-for-12 with two doubles, a home run and five RBI over the three-game stretch and could be included in the lineup on a more frequent basis while he's wielding a hot bat.

  • Rays' Danny Jansen: Trio of hits in defeat

Jansen went 3-for-4 with a double, a two-run home run and three total runs scored during Saturday's 11-10 extra-inning loss against the Marlins.

The bottom of the lineup ruled the day for the Rays, and Jansen was a big part of it with his second three-hit game of the season. The 30-year-old is slashing .200/.320/.354 with five home runs and 14 RBI this year.

  • Rays' Christopher Morel: Ten total bases in win

Morel went 3-for-3 with a double, two homers, three runs scored and four RBI during Saturday's 11-10 loss to the Marlins.

Getting a start against lefty Ryan Weathers (head/arm), Morel accounted for 10 total bases in only three at-bats before being replaced for defensive reasons by Josh Lowe in the top of the eighth inning. Morel's two home runs brought his season total up to five, and his four RBI represented his first in 23 games.

  • Rays' Brandon Lowe: Clubs 13th homer

Lowe went 1-for-5 with a solo home run during Saturday's 11-10 loss to the Marlins in extras.

Lowe hit his 13th home run on the season Saturday and knocked in his 34th RBI of the year in the process. The 30-year-old is on pace to top 30 home runs and 80 RBI, which would be his best season since 2021 -- the last time he was healthy enough to play more than 109 games. He is currently slashing .247/.298/.454 for the campaign.

  • Rays' Taj Bradley: Struggles in no-decision

Bradley settled for a no-decision after allowing seven runs on six hits and two walks while striking out two during Saturday's 11-10 loss to the Marlins in 10 innings.

The 24-year-old had a tough outing Saturday, allowing a season-high seven runs to a bottom-10 offense in MLB. Bradley, who struck out 34 batters in his last 30 innings entering Saturday, struggled to miss bats and got punished for mistakes by the Marlins. Things won't get any easier for the right-hander, who lines up to face the Mets in his next turn through the rotation.

  • Rays' Jonathan Aranda: Knocks in two

Aranda went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored Friday against the Marlins.

Aranda has been hitting well over the last two weeks, with Friday's effort marking his sixth multi-hit performance in 12 games. He has only four extra-base hits in that span, but he has still managed 12 runs scored with 10 RBI. For the season, Aranda has maintained an excellent .324 batting average yet he still rarely starts against left-handed pitchers.

  • Rays' Pete Fairbanks: Collects 12th save

Fairbanks worked a perfect ninth inning Friday to record his 12th save of the season in a 4-3 win over the Marlins.

The right-hander didn't walk or strike out a batter, instead getting two flyballs before Taylor Walls made a leaping grab on a Javier Sanoja line drive for the final out. Fairbanks has been tagged for earned runs in only one of his last 18 appearances dating back to April 23, posting a 1.04 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 14:7 K:BB through 17.1 innings over that stretch while converting nine of 10 save chances.

  • Rays' Zack Littell: Sharp in sixth win

Littell (6-5) picked up the win Friday, allowing one run on six hits over six innings in a 4-3 victory over the Marlins. He struck out four without walking a batter.

The only blemish on Littell's line was a fourth-inning solo shot by Agustin Ramirez. The right-hander delivered his third straight quality start and ninth of the season in 13 trips to the mound, and he hit the showers after an efficient 72 pitches (47 strikes), getting a bit of a break after he tossed a 117-pitch complete game his last time out. Littell will take a 3.68 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 52:11 K:BB through 80.2 innings into his next start, which is scheduled to come on the road next week in Boston.

  • Rays' Danny Jansen: Exiting starting nine

Jansen is absent from the lineup for Friday's game versus the Marlins.

Jansen was the Rays' starting catcher for Thursday's night game, so he will get some rest during Friday's matinee. Matt Thaiss is behind the dish and batting seventh.
