Cavaliers' Darius Garland: Won't be ready for start of season
Garland (toe) is likely to miss time to open the 2025-26 season, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.
While the Cavaliers announced earlier Monday that Garland was expected to resume basketball activities by the start of training camp in October, the team also relayed that the point guard was facing a recovery timeline of 4-to-5 months after undergoing surgery to repair his left great toe. According to sources familiar with the situation, Garland's recovery program looks like it will trend closer to five months than four, which means that the point guard will miss at least a handful of games to begin the campaign. Donovan Mitchell will likely see more on-ball opportunities for whatever length of time Garland is sidelined.

Cavaliers' Darius Garland: Likely for camp following surgery
The Cavaliers announced Monday that Garland underwent surgery on his left great toe and is expected to resume basketball activities by the start of training camp.
Garland sprained the toe late in the regular season, and the injury hindered him during the playoffs. The point guard averaged only 14.0 points and 4.0 assists in 28.3 minutes per game over his final three appearances after missing a four-game stretch, which included the final two wins of Cleveland's first-round series against Miami and the first two contests of the second-round series versus Indiana. Garland was a key catalyst for the top-seeded Cavaliers during the regular season, averaging 20.6 points, 6.7 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 1.2 steals in 30.7 minutes.
