Perry took both penalties in the first period. He made up for the misdeeds by helping out on Leon Draisaitl's game-winner 19:29 into overtime. Oilers' Corey Perry: Productive on top line with McDavid
Perry scored a goal in Thursday's 6-3 win over the Stars in Game 5.
Perry gave the Oilers a 1-0 lead on the power play at 2:31 of the first period. It was Edmonton's first shot of the game. Perry has also stepped onto the first line due to Zach Hyman's (arm) absence, and that means an even-strength gig with Connor McDavid and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. It's likely Perry's best offensive opportunity since his Ducks days. Perry has three points (one goal, two assists) in his last two games and 10 points, including seven snipes, in 16 games in the playoffs. Those seven goals are the most by a player age 39 or older (at the start of the playoffs) in a single postseason. Perry found the back of the net with his lone shot of the game and also showed physicality, although that can be expected considering all the postseason experience the 39-year-old has. Perry got a look with the first power-play unit and cashed in at 19:17 of the first period. He's scored three times over eight games in March, and while he's trending up for now, he's mainly been limited to bottom-six usage for much of the season. Perry has two goals over three games to begin March. He had the opening tally Thursday, scoring 9:34 into the contest on a feed from newcomer Max Jones. For now, Perry's fourth-line role isn't being threatened, but that could change once Trent Frederic (lower body) is able to make his Oilers debut.
